Android v1.5 "Cupcake" Released. First Impressions
About an hour and a half ago, I was just about to fall asleep and then... "Bleep"... It was the G1. I thought it would be my brothers girlfriend who usually texts me to ask about him... He DOES have a phone Bee.... :)
But, it wasn't. Instead I was greeted with a notification that said an update has been found, would you like to download it, or something like that... Hell yeah! It was the eagerly awaited v1.5 "Cupcake" update.
So, I'll get down to the bit you all wanna know... What exactly does cupcake add to the operating system??? Let me tell you...
MMS
YouTube uploading
Video Capture & Playback
Auto Rotate UI
On Screen Keyboard with predictive text (similar to iPhone)
New, improved better looking visuals on drawer backgrounds and icons
Calendar widget
New folder options for created folders on the home screen
Animations when opening and closing windows
Much smoother UI
So far, after having a proper mess around with it, I'm really impressed with this update and it has improved my overall opinion of the OS... Good work Google! More updates like this one please... Christ knows what needs to be added now...

Ghostbusters goes PS3 exclusive
Yup, the title says it all... Ghostbusters the game is now being published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The news was delivered last night at a Sony press event in Sydney.. Reading gaming forums has shown that this news has annoyed and upset a lot of Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii fans...
It is unsure whether it will be a timed exclusive, though this seems unlikely as Sony have the publishing rights.

Age of Empires 3 on N-Gage
Assassin's Creed set to assassinate the competition on iPhone
If you've looked at the featured page on the iPhone App Store, (unlike me, who got told by Cookie) you will have noticed that Altair has stealthily climbed to the top of the page, ready to assassinate the competition in Assassins Creed for iPhone.
First impressions of the game are good! Great in fact, the combat feels fluid, framerate (although complained about by a lot of people) is solid, and voice acting adds to the overall console quality feel of the game... Mini games pop up every so often which are innovative ways to pick pockets, interrogate enemies and more...
The only thing I can complain about is the on screen analogue stick but that is a shortcoming of the iPhone itself and not the game...
In this mini review, Assassins Creed gets an 8/10

TBRE, Now With Android
Just a quick post to let you know where I've been all week and that yes, I am still alive... Recently got a T-Mobile G1 in a swap with the missus and I have to say I'm very impressed... So impressed in fact, that I'm now adding Android to the things I post about on the site!!! Everything down to the openness of the platform to the extremely customisable user interface, makes Android a serious competitor to other mobile operating systems...
So keep checking back for updates, and I promise I'll start posting more.

Nintendo DSi Released Today!!! (and I've got one)
The DS has changed a lot since it first came out hasn't it... I remember when I first bought my original DS, and a day later, I read online that a new DS was rumoured to be released. As you could probably imagine, I was gutted. After about 8 months of fun with my original DS, I found it one day, under the bed... Switched it on and the top screen was knackered...
Later that year, I bought 2 DS Lite's, a black and a white one, for me and the missus.... Few months later we sold em.
The day that the new colours came out (Red, Turquoise and Green) I loved the look of them and spent about an hour deciding which one to buy... I chose red (best one :P)
My Mum called me selling her silver DSL for £50 with 5 games...Bargain!!!
Since then I've used the red, the missus the silver and we've played cracking titles like Super Mario 64 DS, New Super Mario Brothers, Pokemon Diamond, GTA Chinatown Wars, and many more to keep the faith in the DS, so when the DSi was announced. I knew it was for me.
Today (after a whole load of moaning to the missus) the missus bought me a black DSi and it's awesome. It feels nicer in your hand than the DSL and it's noticably thinner. The matt finish looks gorgeous and the interface looks fresh and user friendly (like all things nintendo) and the screens are bigger and brighter... The battery and charging lights are now on the left of the device and a new wireless light has been added. In between the two screens is a VGA camera which is well integrated in games such as WarioWare Snapped. The power switch is now at the bottom left of the device next to the touch screen and the front camera is in the upper right corner when open and bottom left when closed... The volume switch is no longer a slider but is now buttons, and the Gameboy Advance cartridge slot is gone...
When I first logged into the DSi store I was welcomed with 1000 DSi points which have been spent on WarioWare Snapped and Paper Plane costing 500 and 200 points.
I also downloaded the web browser from the store which was free.
I think the new shoulder buttons will take some getting used to though over the DS Lite ones.
The charger is different to the DS & DS Lite charger. Why do nintendo do this?
The browser was a lot faster than I'd imagined it being and I have tested my blog on it and it works, you should also try it...
If you were a fan of the DS, the DSi is for you... It's what would happen if the PSP and the DS had a baby. It's a great little handheld with huge potential. Lets hope it uses that potential in the very near future.

PS3 Firmware 2.70 is live!!!! Cross game text chat, Game info search, and more!!!
Isn't it funny how whenever the PS3 receives a system update, it always manages to make big news? Well, this is no exception...
After firing up my PS3 this morning, I was greeted by the "a system update is available, go to [Settings] > [System Update] to update your console... I was thinking, please be 2.70... And it was...

TEXT CHAT -You can now chat to people on your friends list using Text Chat, to do this, go to the [Friends] tab in the XMB and select [Start New Chat], here you will be given the option for Voice or Text Chat. You can chat to up to 15 friends at a time and can be in 3 chat rooms at any one time.
Internet Search option for games - You can now select [Internet Search] from the options displayed while highlighting a game and pressing triangle.

Volume Control - You can now adjust the volume of specific music tracks stored on your HDD. This is added to help stop sudden loudness in your Music Library.
File Share Capacity - You can now share photographs up to 3MB with friends. This has been expanded from the previous 1MB limit

PSN Download ETA - Downloads from the Playstation Store now give an estimated time of arrival.

Wii Storage Solution Released
For a while now, many Wii owners (including myself) have been crying out for a Wii Hard Drive to keep all of our Wiiware and Virtual Console games on and stop it from clogging up our Wii's tiny 512MB memory.
Nintendo responded with "Why dont you just delete them and redownload them?". Yeah, sure nintendo, I'm just gonna wait to redownload my games before I can play them each time? Fans weren't impressed... And thankfully, Nintendo listened.
Last night at GDC, Nintendo unveiled that a firmware update was live for the Wii, enabling storage of Virtual Console, WiiWare, and Wii Channels onto SD Cards up to a whopping 32GB. So now we can quit moaning about it and get back to playing all things Nintendo...
Curzo out.

Handheld Heaven this week!!!
This week saw the release of three big handheld releases for the 3 big platforms... First up is Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone/iPod Touch which is like a shooting range-esque game which uses animated sprites from the insanely awesome PS3 title, Metal Gear Solid 4; Guns of the patriots...
Secondly, on the subject of insanely awesome PS3 titles, Resistance 2's little brother Resistance Retribution saw the light of day on PSP this week. RR is a third person shooter based in the Resistance universe and follows James Grayson, Major Cartwright and Rachel Parker from the previous Resistance:Fall Of Man on Playstation 3.
Last but certainly not least is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on Nintendo DS. In Chinatown Wars you play as Huang Lee and you are avenging the death of your father... While in the city you can also kill, steal & drug deal as well as try your luck with SCRATCH CARDS!!! (*Curzo's nan runs off to buy a DS & GTA: CW*)
I've got all three and I'm loving them! GTA the most... If you have a DS, BUY IT, and if you don't... BUY ONE...
If you have a PSP, Buy RR, if you don't... Why haven't you got a PSP yet??? LittleBig-Freaking-Planet has been announced for it... yup thats right... Buy one right now...
Anyway, that's all I have to say... A review of the excellent Nokia N96 is coming soon. Curzo out...

I've took some screenshots to help you decide...

REVIEW - Nokia N96
For years now, Nokia have been the frontrunners of the smartphone scene, and when you own a Nokia smartphone, it becomes clear why. You can't imagine going back to a normal phone, and when you do, the new phone feels plain, boring and featureless.
This is how it was for me. When the gaming keys were destroyed on my Nokia N81-8GB leaving a big gap in the casing where you can see the insides of the phone, as well as blinding bright lights which usually add a subtle backlight to the gaming buttons, I knew it was time to upgrade, so I went and bought a Samsung G600 and as nice as the phone was (as was the interface), it felt very boring. Poor java games, poor browser and poor functionality.
So, when I was looking to upgrade from this, I looked towards my old friend Nokia and after a bit of looking around, I took the plunge with their new flagship phone... The Nokia N96.
Section 1 - Hardware
The N96 is a beauty, a lovely glossy black finish, with an excellent 2.4" QVGA screen (which could've been a higher res really, come on nokia!)great for watching movies, with the help of the integrated kickstand on the back of the device which fits into place around the excellent 5 megapixel camera. The sides of the device are silver and the keypad is flush and looks great with the phone.
The left side of the phone features a micro SD memory card slot, to expand the internal memory of 16GB up to an iPhone crushing 48GB! On the right we have speakers at the top and bottom of the phone which seems odd until you put the device landscape making it stereo. On the face of the device is an excellent directional pad, surrounded by multimedia keys, a small silver multimedia key on the right of the directional pad, left and right soft keys and call and end call buttons.
It also features and extra set of multimedia keys when the two-way slider is slid down, and when slid upright, the number keys are revealed.
Section 2 - Interface
The UI for Symbian OS 9.3 (S60 3rd Edition) is as great as it's ever been, but now thanks to the accelerometer features a landscape mode. The landscape mode works very well rearranging web pages, menu's and the gallery effortlessly and is a welcome addition to the already excellent platform.
The menu's look great and the default themes that come with the phone work really well with the device and don't really need changing. However, if you are not happy and you'd prefer something else, then there's a mass of themes out there for you to download and applying them couldn't be easier.
The menus, although sometimes sluggish, are user friendly and easy to navigate. This phone shouldn't really give you any problems. A full screen wallpaper option would've been welcomed but it's no biggie! Especially, with the ease of creating themes on the device itself with third party applications.
Nokia's new N-Gage platform is also well presented and looks very appealing to the eye. You can chat with friends, download games and trials, and compare N-Gage points (which closely resemble microsoft's gamerscore system)
----------
Section 3 - Multimedia
The N96 was clearly built for multimedia, featuring a DVB(H) TV tuner for watching TV broadcasts on the go, 2 sets of mutimedia keys (one for portait, one for landscape) a kickstand around the camera for watching movies hands free and excellent quality music playback!
The quality of the 5 mega-pixel camera is great! It's no N82 or Cyber-shot quality camera but it does a great job. A xenon flash would've topped it off but sadly, only a typical LED flash.... But it's a dual LED flash and seems to do a great job in poorly lit areas. The camera well outshines the one of it's biggest market rivals, the iPhone 3G and the T-Mobile (HTC) G1.
Video capture could've been better. I mean, I know I migrated to Blu-Ray from DVD a while back but the DVD-like quality video capture doesnt seem so DVD like... But it is pretty damn good quality for a phone and is captured at VGA (640 x 480) resolution.
The N96 is overall excellent for multimedia. The DVB (H) broadcasts are not available in the UK so, to make up for it, Nokia have pre-installed the BBC iPlayer to the device... Video's from iPlayer can be either streamed or downloaded with a 7 day license key. Watching TV programmes on the device is great with the kickstand allowing you to just sit back and enjoy... However, if the kickstand is not enough for you... The N96 comes packaged with a TV out cable.
Music playback is crisp, clear and loud but can be a little tinny at times. This little annoyance is fixed by the 3.5mm headphones slot allowing you to plug in your fancy headphones for a great listening experience.
Section 4 - Gaming and Internet
Whether it's playing the latest N-Gage releases or running Genesis and SNES emulators, the N96 is a great phone for gaming, sporting a fantastic D-Pad and dedicated gaming keys that only light up during games, it's easy to use and rules out the awkwardness of the iPhone and G1's "virtual joypads". There's easily enough buttons to go around for the core games on the N-Gage platform, and for the more casual users... The typical A & B buttons... What more could you need...
The N96 also uses a fantastic web browser supporting flash, java, and whatever else you'd like to throw at it. Files are easily downloaded with the download manager and .zip files can be unpacked on the phone itself.
File sharing via Ovi, Flickr and more is also available out of the box as well as Mail for exchange.
Section 5 - Overview
So, it seems as though Nokia have done it again, it may not be as powerful as the N95-8GB yet it still packs a punch. The N96 is great for all of your needs, reading .pdf's on the go, browsing the web, handheld gaming, snapping high-quality 5 megapixel photos and and of course, calling and texting... Overall, the N96 is a truly fantastic phone!

You have the opportunity to surf lots of tips, tricks, ideas, and much more all in one place. You will no longer need to search Google for hours again!
iPhones are still a pretty new concept and some still don’t know what it is all about. If you are new it is a perfect learning curve, otherwise why not help others and reap the rewards at the same time.
iPhoneish is an user generated website that collects all the iPhone information you could possibly need and store it all one place.
iPhoneish would like to announce the launch of iPhoneish.com, a central point dedicated to collecting all the best iPhone news, hacks, rumors, applications and much, much more on the World Wide Web.

Think of it like you now own a part of an amazing new forum and you can really get into it and tell people what you really think.
This is done by way of our voting system, where the bigger the vote, the higher up on the published page the story will be displayed.

Tap Tap Revenge 2 out NOW + Mini Review
The sequel to Tapulous's killer iPhone/iPod touch app, Tap Tap Revenge, has appeared on the App Store... I've spent a bit of time with the app now I love it.
New gameplay mechanics add more of a challenge to the game, features such as double taps and hold notes have now been added making it a miles more fun experience.
Tap Tap Revenge 2 has improved on the seemingly perfect music game for iPhone/iPod Touch. All that remains to be asked is, what will they do next?

Mortal Kombat FOR SALE!!! Could you buy it for me plz?
Today, documents published by NetDockets has revealed that a crumbling Midway are looking to sell the Mortal Kombat License.
Mortal Kombat is now nearly 20 years old and I've been playing since the start (even though I'm 21) and this is bad news for the franchise... or is it? Maybe Capcom could pick up the license to make the Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter games we've all been craving, doubtful, but I can always dream right?
I can actually see EA picking it up if anyone does. Don't know why...
Here's hoping this isn't the last we've seen of Sub Zero & the gang...

Review - Apple iPhone 3G
Apple are one of those companies who could release a chocolate teapot, slap an Apple logo on it and call it the iPot, and it would sell millions. One of their latest successes is the critically acclaimed iPhone 3G, but is it as great as everyone says? Let's find out...
Section 1 - Hardware
As with most Apple hardware, it's a looker. The glossy black finish reminiscent of Sony's PS3, with a nice chrome apple "buy me" logo on the upper back of the device. The metal trim curving off the front of the device makes the device look really unique and makes it stand out anywhere.
The 3.5" screen is nice and bright and produces a crisp clear image, and is flush with the device as is the 2 megapixel camera on the back. The speaker for phonecalls is above the screen and fits in well with the device, and the loudspeaker for music, ringtones and applications is on the bottom of the device, which to be honest, I've noticed gets covered a lot by my finger when holding the phone in landscape mode. The microphone is located on the other side of the USB/Dock connector, and looks just like the speaker.

Section 2 - Multimedia
On the Multimedia side of things there is a lot of bang for your buck. With the same interface and operating system as the iPod touch you can enjoy 3d coverflow, which shows album art for all your music in 3D and is enabled by tipping the device to a landscape position, and looks awesome! There is also youtube support so you can also get rick rolled on your iPhone! The youtube support is well integrated and a great part of the iPhone software. The iPhone sports a 2 megapixel camera, which to be honest, isn't the greatest camera i've seen on a phone with no flash, but beats rivals such as the T-Mobile G1 hands down. Your photo's can be used in applications such as iJiggles from smells like donkey inc. and more and can be amusing.
Music playback from the phone is loud, but quality-wise it could be a little better coming from Apple.
Viewing photos is great too, just simply use your finger to flick through them and pinch inwards or outwards with 2 fingers to zoom in and out thanks to the iPhone 3G's excellent multi touch display.
All of this is great however, but you can't help but feel let down by the lack of video capture on the iPhone

Section 3 - Gaming on the iPhone
Apple really have made a great portable games console in the iPhone and the sooner people realise this the better. Console quality games such as gameloft's Asphalt 4:Elite Racing, The Hero of Sparta and Brothers in Arms, along with Sega's Super Monkey Ball make the iPhone a well suited choice to the portable gamer like myself. 3D graphics look crystal clear and the frame rate of the 3D games is outstanding. Personally, I believe the iPhone is better for gaming than the Nintendo DS Lite
Section 4 - Messaging
Not really much I can say on this as my main email account is with Windows Live, so I haven't really been able to use the email... sorry readers! But as for text messaging, I've done a bit of that, and I love it. Your messages show up in what looks like a windows live messenger sort of way, a conversation view, with green speech bubbles on the right (you) and white on the left (receipient)with a text entry window for the on-screen keyboard below.
Section 5 - Internet
Browsing the internet on your iPhone 3G is a dream! It looks great, carefully scaling full html pages to your screen in landscape or portrait mode and 3G internet speeds as well as WiFi support make this a wonderful experience. Websites such as gametrailers & more have iPhone support now too. If portable browsing is your thing, this is your phone.
Section 6 - Overview
If you're looking for a phone that can do it all (apart from video capture) then the iPhone is for you. It's an innovation in mobile phones which is already becoming the future of phones spawning copycats from manufacturers like Samsung and even Nokia.
Is the iPhone the best phone ever? Quite possibly, yes.

Warhawk space on Home this week!
Playstation Home has seen a poor amount of updates since I was first invited 6 months ago, and there's not much to do... Well hopefully, the launch of the Warhawk space will get me and many other PS3 owners to log back into PS Home every once in a while (and Warhawk).
The Warhawk space will feature tables with 3D maps of the in game maps in Warhawk so that you and your friends can strategise in home before moving out into the battlefield...
The Warhawk space is due this week, free of course!
Lost Planet 2: 360 Exclusive CONFIRMED
The follow up to the icy shooter Lost Planet has been confirmed as an Xbox 360 exclusive. This was already rumored to be the case as the trailer debuted on Xbox Live earlier in the week.
The first Lost Planet was pretty good, but needed a bit of work on the gameplay mechanics, hopefully they'll be sorted this time round.
Capcom have also confirmed that the game has 4 player co-op
More info as it comes in.
Non Blu-Ray PS3 on the way? I doubt it...
Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey believes that a price cut for Sony's powerhouse, the Playstation 3 is on the way... He believes the price cut is coming from removing the blu-ray feature from the console... Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all the games on blu-ray discs? Removing this feature would make it no more than a PS2 that plays PSN games... But not PS2 games :).
Personally, I call BS on this one... What do you think?

Unboxing the iPhone 3G
Hey everyone, my iPhone 3G came today and i'm loving it so far... After spending about an hour syncing all my apps and stuff from my iPod Touch 1G and updating the firmware to 2.2.1 I've been able to get used to the phone and it's great...
Full review at the end of the week... (or at least by Monday) but for now, here's the unboxing video.
My prayers answered? Red Xbox 360 Announced...
For a while now I've wanted a red Xbox 360, so much, that the missus jokingly said to me that if Microsoft release one, I can buy it on day one...
Well, you should have seen her face...
That's right, today, the limited edition Resident Evil 5 bundle was officially announced. Priced at £229 and consisting of the lovely red console, a red wireless controller, black headset, 120GB HDD, a copy of Resident Evil 5 and an exclusive theme, make this one hell of a bargain...
Me? I'm already sold....
